Installation
There are a few different methods that can change based on different factors, such as the amount of sound absorption you wish to achieve, the type of wall you’re installing them to, and whether you may plan on removing them at some point. Below you’ll find a list of options that can help in each situation:
Finishing the panels is not required – they are meant to be installed as-is. However, this can be an optional step if you wish. You may apply a stain to the veneer face or spray on a clear coat to seal the panels. We would advise testing any sort of finish or stain on a sample to ensure you’re satisfied with the results.
No, you will not! The materials we use (MDF slats & PET backer) are dyed throughout, so cutting the panels will retain the same color along all existing and newly-cut edges.
The panels can be cut using a table saw or a skill saw when cutting across the slats. If cutting longways between slats, you may use a razor-knife to cut the PET only.
The type of screw that you need depends on your wall and the material it is made of where the Akuplanel is being installed.
Yes, the panels are very flexible. Meaning that you can bend them gently around both inside and outside corners to finish your project the way you intended to.
Yes, you can even install on brick walls, and concrete walls. We recommend installing them with screws but you can also fasten the panels with glue/adhesive. Would recommend that you check out our guide on how to install the panels.
This is a common question and one that has a few different solutions. Butting the panels together in various ways will be the go-to method, with varying looks you can choose from. Other methods may be available if you’d like to customize them or have a contractor do something more unique. But our recommended options are as follows:

Akupanels are not a structural item – they are decorative. TV’s and other heavy decorations cannot be secured directly to the panel. Akupanels can be cut very easily, but please be weary of the assembled staple locations (visible from the backside). Other more lightweight things such as artwork could be secured to it if needed. You may even cut away the slats only, leaving only the Black PET backing to hang some decorative shelving or artwork within.

Unfortunately, the materials that Akupanel are manufactured with are not fit for outdoor spaces and will retain moisture in an area like a bathroom with a shower unit. The PET backing is made from recycled plastics but is a fibrous, porous material that will could hold water and cause molding behind the install when placed in high-humidity or high-moisture areas. We highly recommend against it.
Akupanels will equal 15.5 square feet per full sheet. The simplest way to figure out your panel count is to measure the overall length and the overall height of the space to cover. Once you have the overall square footage, dividing that by 15.5 and then rounding up to the nearest number will be your suggested panel count. If there will be a lot of cuts made to your panels, consider ordering an additional panel or two in case anything goes awry.
Product Information
These panels are produced to 23 5/8” wide by 94 ½” tall. The thickness of the panel is 13/16”. This is the only current available option, cutting is usually necessary for most installations.
When panels are boxed for shipping, we cut them in half to allow for free shipping. So you’ll receive an “A” panel and a “B” panel to equal the full 23 5/8” width. Each box will consist of 2ea “A” panels and 2ea “B” panels if ordering 2+ Akupanels.
